Hanlo Nel
Owner, head off-road training instructor and guide at EcoTrek 4x4. With over 15 years of off-roading experience, Hanlo is highly skilled and holds US254154 and US254135 accreditations. These certifications reflect his expertise in handling and instructing on 4WD vehicle operations, emphasizing safety, recovery techniques, and environmental responsibility. Additionally, Hanlo is a passionate conservationist dedicated to butterfly conservation. As one of our guides, his knowledge and commitment ensure a safe, educational, and environmentally conscious adventure for all.
Earle Whiteley
Head butterfly expedition guide at Ecotrek 4x4. Earle Whiteley is a 6th generation lepidopterist, with a legacy deeply rooted in the study and conservation of butterflies, Earle brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team. He is the author of numerous books on butterflies, including "A Beginner’s Guide to Collecting Butterflies the Correct Way" and "The Nomenclature of South African Butterflies".
Earle is not only a dedicated lepidopterist but also the founder and chairman of the Conservation of Butterflies in South Africa (CBISA). His extensive work with CBISA focuses on the protection and study of butterfly species, their habitats, and ecosystems.
Marcus Farnham
Head of First Aid and expedition guide at Ecotrek 4x4. Marcus Farnham has an impressive background in adventure and service, Marcus brings a wealth of experience to the team. His 16-year tenure as a lifesaver has honed his skills in emergency response and medical care, ensuring the safety and well-being of all our adventurers.
Marcus's adventurous spirit is further evidenced by his participation in the Cape to Rio sailing event, one of the most challenging ocean races in the world. Known for his thrill-seeking nature, Marcus thrives in high-pressure situations and brings dynamic energy to every expedition.
